  • Guercino. Poetry and sentiment in 17th century painting

  • Stazione termini - Ala Mazzoniana
    The exhibition intend to trace a particular Baroque line of Guercino artistic experience. One hundred pictures comes from important collections compose the core of exposed works: "Liberazione di San Pietro" come from Prado's Museum and "Madonna con Bambino e Santa Cecilia" from Berlino. from 09/02/2004 to 30/06/2004

    Complesso del Vittoriano
    Some 200 works of art by the Swiss born painter and graphic artist, Paul Klee are on display at the exhibition in the Complesso del Vittoriano. The paintings cover the whole of Paul Klee's career from his earliest etchings at the start of years at the Bauhaus school after the first World War to his later, more dark and threatening works as he succumbed to a crippling disease of which he died in 1940. from 12/03/2004 to 27/06/2004

    This is Rome's international exhibition of photography and is much cherised by the city's mayor who has every intention of putting Rome on the photographic map. Bigger and better than past editions this year's festival will run for five months till well after the summer and is made up of lots of little exhibitions in all.     The exhibition collects paintings and rare testimonies of the Roman art from the second half of the 13th century to the earlies decades of the 14th century. The painted crosses, the Marian icons and all the artistic works on exhibition shows the pictorial style from the Byzantine heritage of the last Thirteenth century, to the figurative naturalism filtered by the Romans workshop’s masters through the examples and the influences of Cavallini, the young Giotto and the contemporary Florentine art.

  • Complesso del Vittoriano
    Over seventy paintings by the theme of work are on show at the Complesso del Vittoriano just off Piazza Venezia. Collected over the middle years of the last century by the industrialist Verzocchi, and donated to the city of Forlì, near Rimini, upon the owner's death, the paintings are a fine tribute to the art of post-war Italy didn't come to an abrupt end with the dawning of the 20th century.     CAPITOLINE COIN CABINET
    The Capitoline Coin Cabinet was established in 1872 following Ludovico Stanzani's bequest of coins and precious gems and includes collections of coins, medals, glyptics and jewellery belonging to the municipality.

    HISTORIC MUSEUM OF THE LIBERATION OF ROME
    Set up in what was once the headquarters of the SS Kommandantur, where the major representatives of the Roman Resistance, many of whom lost their lives, were interrogated, tortured and imprisoned.

    NATIONAL MUSEUM OF FOLK ARTS AND TRADITION
    National Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions
    The material was collected all over Italy and put on display in 1911, for the fiftieth anniversary of the Unity of Italy, to illustrate the various costumes, religious practices, art, work and everyday life

    MUSEUM OF ROME - PALAZZO BRASCHI

    Recently re-opened and completely restored, the Museum contains around 40,000 pieces including sculptures, paintings, marble pieces, and mosaics dating from the Middle Ages to 1870 which are exhibited on a rotation basis.

    L.PIGORINI NATIONAL MUSEUM OF PRHISTORY AND ETNOGRAPHY

    An ethnographic collection containing around 60,000 pieces produced by European indigenous cultures. The Italian prehistoric and protohistoric section documents the evolution from the Paleolithic epoch to the Iron Age.

    MUNICIPAL ANTIQUARIUM
    Household objects from the 6th century B.C. to the time of barbarian invasions. Includes the famous doll with jointed limbs that was part of the funeral accouterment of Crepereia Tryphaena.

    Finds coming from the Forum excavations and frescoes once on the walls from the walls of the churches of Santa Maria Antiqua and Sant'Adriano.

    ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF OSTIA
    On display are the finds brought to light during the excavations in ancient Ostia: sculptures, decorative and architectural terracotta pieces, objects of worship.

    CAPITOLINE MUSEUM
    The oldest public collection in the world. Includes sculptures of great value such as the Dying Gaul and the Capitoline Venus. In the Picture Gallery paintings dating from the 14th to the 17th century, by artists of the caliber of Titian, Bellini and Caravaggio.

    BARRACCO MUSEUM

    The collection, which belonged to Baron Giovanni Barracco, includes Egyptian, Assyro-Babylonian, Greek, and Roman works of art. In the basement are the remains of a late-Roman building.

    MUSEUM OF ROMAN CIVILIZATION
    The museum retraces the history of Rome and its civilization works all over the world. The magnificent model of Imperial Rome in 1:250 scale is not to be missed.

      VIA OSTIENSE MUSEUM
    Set up in the rooms of Porta San Paolo, the museum documents the road that joined Rome to Ostia. Noteworthy are the models of Ostia and the Harbors of Claudius and Trajan.

    MUSEUM
    OF THE WALLS
    Located inside Porta San Sebastiano, at the beginning of the Appian Way. Illustrates the architectural history of Rome's fortified surrounding walls and allows access to the only section of the wall-walk open to the public.

    Housed in the splendid villa of Pope Julius III, it holds the pre-Roman antiquities from the Etruscan and Faliscan civilizations.

    ROME NATIONAL MUSEUM
    The 6th century ex-Convent of the Certosini di Santa Maria degli Angeli, built among the ruins of the Diocletian Baths by a probable disciple of Michelangelo, is the original headquarters of themuseum that was inaugurated in 1889 to house one of the most important archaeological collection in the world. The museum has been under renovation for some time. Coming from the Palazzo Massimo where order reigns, the impression of beauty here is united with confusion: the findings exhibited n the Garden are so numerous that often there is no description.

    It contains the section of ancient art - archaeological findes of Roman age from II century b.C. to IV century a.C.: statuary, bronzes, frescos and mosaics - and the numismatic section - acient money, medieval and modern, diggins, seals, medals, gems and jewels of classical age - of Museo Nazionale Romano.

    Torlonia family's historical residence and home of Benito Mussolini from 1925 to 1943. It has been recently restored and open to the public. Visitors can admire some works of the Torlonia family's collection and the bedroom.

      SPADA GALLERY

    Housed in the palace of the same name, in which Borromini designed the colonnaded gallery in false perspective. The gallery holds works by important artists, mainly of the 17th century.
